How to Make Buttermilk
Knowing how to make buttermilk off of the cuff can ensure that you won’t find yourself short when encountered with slightly awkward recipes. This basic substitute is the next best thing.
Steps
1- Prepare your ingredients. You’re going to need ¾ cup plus 3 tablespoons milk and 1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice or white vinegar (cider vinegar works as well). It’s that simple!
2- Add the milk and lemon juice together and stir.
3- Allow the milk to rest for at least 5 minutes but no longer than 10 minutes.
4- Wait for the milk to curdle. When the milk is slightly curdled, the buttermilk is ready to use.
Tips
If the milk is very cold it may take a little longer.
