Equipment

A good whisk makes any baking preparation work so much easier. If you’re just a casual cook/baker, then a traditional hand whisk will suffice, but if you take your culinary prowess a little more seriously then perhaps an electric whisk or batter stirrer is more appropriate. As with all kitchen ware, this kind of thing is always so much cheaper online.

Steps

1- Prepare your ingredients. You’re going to need ¾ cup plus 3 tablespoons milk and 1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice or white vinegar (cider vinegar works as well). It’s that simple!

2- Add the milk and lemon juice together and stir.

3- Allow the milk to rest for at least 5 minutes but no longer than 10 minutes.

4- Wait for the milk to curdle. When the milk is slightly curdled, the buttermilk is ready to use.

Tips

If the milk is very cold it may take a little longer.
